Take off
The phrasal verb "take off" means to start to fly or when something begins to move very quickly. It's commonly used in aviation (as airplanes take off from the runway) but can also describe someone leaving a place in a hurry. For instance, "After the meeting, John had to take off to catch his train." It can be used metaphorically to describe something becoming successful rapidly, like a new business or product hitting the market and gaining popularity fast.
The plane took off smoothly.
The plane departed smoothly.
His career really took off after the promotion.
His career significantly progressed after the promotion.
The bird took off into the sky.
The bird flew away into the sky.
